My name is Nomso “Milani” Gumede, also known as Amahle the Poet. I am am 18-year-old Grade 11 learner at uMkomaas Secondary School. I am residing under ward 16, Amahlongwa under the Chieftancy of Mqadi and Ngidi as our Induna. My Councillor is Mrs M.J. Cele- Luthuli within uMdoni Municipality in the Umkomaas area, Durban, KwaZulu Natal
I am passionate about leadership, education, and empowering young women. Over the years, I have served as a Representative Council of Learners (RCL) member in Grades 8 and 10, and as a Prefect in Grade 11 (2025).
In 2022, I won prizes at a school car show, and in 2023, I proudly received an award at the Blue Marline Poetry Competition, supported by Hollywoodbets.
I believe in abstinence, self-respect, and cultural pride among young girls. I encourage others to stay focused on education and avoid early relationships, as this can prevent teenage pregnancies and reduce the spread of sexually transmitted infections.
I’m also part of a group of young women who are virgins and regularly participate in virginity testing and cultural education programs to promote self-respect and uphold our traditions.
I have now entered the “Amatshitshi Win a Car Competition”, hosted by Mamthembu Wodumo and supported by Vote To Drive (Pty) Ltd. I am the only nominee from the South Coast of Durban, competing alongside well-known public figures.
Winning this competition would be a great honor — not just for me, but for the entire South Coast. It would make history and inspire other young girls to value themselves, remain focused, and take pride in their culture.
